Since the migration of most employees to working from home I've run into this on a nearly weekly basis in IT where wireless works until it doesn't. Corporate networks can be challenging enough to tune in an environment where you have a lot more access and control than someone at their home. Often this is in a dense urban setting where their setup consists of connecting to the cheapest wireless equipment their ISP could buy.
Once the usual quick checklist items are exhausted, suggesting that maybe we ought to just run a cable before getting into troubleshooting buggy wireless drivers, old hardware that doesn't support modern 802.11 amendments, or conducting a full spectrum analysis are often dismissed, or even if they are open to it, no one seems to own an Ethernet cable these days or their gateway is in a closet, basement or some other inconvenient location.
Someday I hope that installing Ethernet jacks throughout the house becomes as commonplace as it once was to do the same for phone lines, but to many it is an afterthought as they are used to their crappy wireless.
