Pamela Sargent's Venus trilogy was my Wheel of Time. Venus of Dreams and Venus of Shadows came out in 1986 and 1988 respectively. The third volume Child of Venus only came out in 2001. It was a good book, but it seemed as though the author was a different person at that point, so it wasn't very satisfying to read. Currently, I'm annoyed at the lack of followup volumes to Diane Duane's Omnitopia Dawn, which came out in 2010. I haven't read any of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, and won't until it is done.
