There's two stories here. One is where the virus originated, which clickbait title aside is still uncertain as is discussed in the second half. The other is "was bad science occurring in relation to investigating the origin?" Which is clearly a resounding YES from undisclosed conflicts of interest, offers and pressure to manipulate papers, attempts to cover up funding of research, etc. The clear YES to the second question is something that should be widely discussed by anyone of any partisan leaning who thinks good science is important. And the YES also points to the importance of a much more thorough and transparent investigation into the question of origin, especially given the ongoing similar lab efforts. An important but very disappointing read.
