Why is the open source driver release from Nvidia so important for Linux?

- olliej 4y agoIt isn't? NVIDIA just moved the vast majority of their drivers into the firmware, and now they are getting to act like they've done a great thing, when in reality they're just using the firmware backdoor to circumvent the kernel driver license gates. marcan compared to the Apple GPUs, firmware of similar level of GPU is 400kb vs 34mb. - pabs3 4y agoIts a good thing for nouveau, since it means that can use the new firmware for reclocking, while it currently can't do reclocking at all.
