A lot of confused kids are going to grow up and ask "Mom, Dad, how could you let me have my penis removed?" It's honestly horrific. How can you have so little back-bone you mutilate your child instead of putting your foot down. Clown world.
- incomingpain 4y agoMight be shocking for many, elective amputation should be something available in our society to adults. Same with if you want to have plastic surgery to look more like a cat. Freedom is the name of the game here. We absolutely should be offering sexual reassignment surgery. I am trans and have had sexual reassignment. Doing it to kids? No way in hell should that happen. None of this, no elective nothing for kids. Society should decide what the age cut off is. 18 vs 21 vs ? but it should be a protected positive right. Nor should we be arresting therapists for providing therapy, that's ridiculous and only going to cause harm. There are absolutely lesbians who are confused that they are ftm and vice versa. The government has no business dealing with your relationship between your doctor/therapist.
- foxyv 4y agoGender affirming surgery is not performed on minors.
- margineyes 4y agoYes it is, girls as young as 13 are having their breasts removed for exactly that reason, see these news articles: https://4w.pub/tiktok-gender-doctor-per-breast-removal-on-13-year-old-girl/ https://4w.pub/tiktok-gender-doctor-per-breast-removal-on-13... https://thefederalist.com/2018/09/12/u-s-doctors-performing-double-mastectomies-healthy-13-year-old-girls/ https://thefederalist.com/2018/09/12/u-s-doctors-performing-... And the demographic data in this research paper, published in a pediatrics medical journal: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/article-abstract/2674039 https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/article-abst... I hope you would agree that this is a horrific practice and that these minors can't possibly meaningfully consent to this.
- foxyv 4y agoNone of these are genital related as you were implying above. In fact, kids were getting breast reductions, implants, and mastectomies back in 1990 totally unrelated to gender affirming care. What is horrific about a mastectomy? Also, your sources are terrible aside from JAMA which SUPPORTS the practice. > In this cohort study, chest dysphoria was significantly higher in the nonsurgical vs postsurgical cohort. Among the nonsurgical cohort, 94% perceived chest surgery as very important; among the postsurgical cohort, serious complications were rare, and 67 of 68 reported an absence of regret. > Self-reported regret was near 0.
- margineyes 4y agoThat was a comment from a different user. Girls having their breasts removed because they want to be boys is just as much gender-affirming surgery as the hypothetical penectomy they proposed. That is, gender-affirming surgery performed on minors. I also note that you've gone from denying it ever happens, to claiming it's not a problem. Despite the obvious issue of meaningful consent.
- foxyv 4y agoI will be more careful with my verbiage in the future. However, you may want to do some further research on the ethics of medical consent in the case of minors. Also, you may want to examine why gender affirming care is "horrific" to you when other similar non-gender affirming medical procedures are not. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5422908/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5422908/
- margineyes 4y agoI find it horrific because these children are having healthy body parts removed in order to alleviate a mental health issue. If I heard that a 13 year old child with body integrity identity disorder had their perfectly healthy hands amputated, I'd be similarly horrified. And very concerned about how the parents enabled it, and that there is some rogue surgeon out there who decided to inflict this on a child. Even more so if that surgeon posted photos on social media showing off the child's mutilated stumps, with cute little slogans encouraging other children to get the same done to them, like what that gender affirmation surgeon in the article I posted does. There are some chilling parallels with the lobotomy craze of the 1940s and 50s. Most people will likely look back on this period of medical malpractice in horror as well, in the years to come.
