Popular merit college scholarships have perpetuated racial inequities
- paulpauper 4y agoGo figure. GPAs are inflated compared to test scores. A recurring pattern.
- LorenPechtel 4y agoPoor schools will set a lower bar for getting a grade. Thus an equal GPA from an inferior school doesn't mean as much. That's why we need stuff like the SAT--a standard yardstick not subject to the desires of each school. And, like usual, "perpetuating racial inequality" really is a colorblind system. We aren't going to solve the problem until we quit pretending it's discrimination.
- polski-g 4y agoGPA is just high school teachers playing favorites and grading on a curve or not. There's no standardization so why should it be used as a national metric? SAT and the like have the same grading criteria regardless of how your teacher feels about you.
