Could Medicines Have Less Silly Names?
- jleyank 4y agoJust use the compound name rather than the marketing name. It's how generics are referred to, anyway. There some rules associated with how the compound is named (based on class and functional features). Ex: Nexium is esomeprazole. Which is S-omeprazole, which is the left-rotating structure of the chiral pair S/R-omeprazole. The mixture was made (active/inactive), patented and sold as Losec or Prilosec. Once that patent ran out, they did a chiral synthesis or separation, took the active enantiomer and ran with that until it's patent ran out.
