Developer creates bot to mimic stock trading by US politicians: portfolio up 25%
- dylan604 4y agoI'm grabbing some popcorn for this show. It should be a good one. It should also tweet the trades so others could follow.
- lupire 4y agoThe data isn't live. And this analysis isn't new. Redditor just made a cute graph.
- dylan604 4y agoMaybe, but it's fun. Their trades are supposed to part of the public record, so yeah, it's available. However, it's a lot easier to follow when it's a tweet vs combing the public records of the US Govt
- evolve2k 4y agoAnyone know where we can get the data from if we want to have a play ourselves?
- smokey_circles 4y agoOh you beat the market? So do cats [1] This just proves "the market" are not the experts they charge you to believe they are. - stevenalowe 4y agoA more interesting question: what’s the correlation between upcoming legislation and the stocks traded?
- paulpauper 4y agoThe data only goes back a year. No description of the methodology. Not very conniving if the goal is to prove corruption.
- frogpelt 4y agoIt's not convincing either.
- edmcnulty101 4y agoHow does one view the portfolio of a politician?
- klyrs 4y agoAs far as I know, they're required to report their investments on a periodic basis (quarterly? I can't remember), so anybody trying to capture time-sensitive inside information would frequently miss the boat.
- alar44 4y agoThey also have to plan these things out ahead of time. They aren't making day by day decisions. Politicians and inside trading is not the problem people make it out to be.
- spacemanmatt 4y agoSneaky trading by politicians is one of those "below the water" problems that is easy to talk down but it is insidious.
- uptown 4y ago“They also have to plan these things out ahead of time. They aren't making day by day decisions.” This is not true.
- neodypsis 4y agoHow are you so sure it's not an existing issue. Have you heard of the Pelosi ETF? https://www.investmentnews.com/pelosis-portfolio-performance-now-wrapped-in-an-etf-218304 https://www.investmentnews.com/pelosis-portfolio-performance... https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/nancy-pelosi-etf-is-here https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/nancy-pelosi-etf-is-here
- 8note 4y agoWhat I really want is an index across all of congress and the senate. One that can buy into their non-public companies too
- alar44 4y agoYeah, it's a bull market. I don't know shit about shit and my portfolio is up like 50% since Covid.
- lupire 4y agoThe broad market is down 15% (S&P500) and 30% (Nasdaq) past six months.
- spacemanmatt 4y agoGee, that seems fair.
