Many people didn't have a choice. Governments at the start are like mafias and will fight you until you acquiesce.
The history of the US is riddled with federal government takeovers and increased taxation of people who did not want it.

- PaulDavisThe1st 4y agoWe're talking about the nature of government and governance. Size/scale does matter to some extent, but much less than the range of variants that human societies have come up with over history.
