A comparison to https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7386 https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7386 would be nice. My gut is that the patch was born due to the copy aspect as well as the awkwardness of arrays. I got around arrays by simply not needing them for the most part.
