Pizza Hut tweets may seem silly. They are not.
- aww_dang 4y agoAnother generation mourns their youth? At the risk of sounding like one of the snobs he lambastes, the pizza just wasn't that good. Maybe this isn't the point? Another fast food chain is dying. Do we want more fast food? I understand the nostalgia, but I miss the larger point if there is one. Perhaps it is about a middle class lifestyle, the optimism of the US in the aftermath of the cold war. Economic opportunity squandered, or just malcontents unable to adjust to changing circumstances?
- nonrandomstring 4y agoI find the psychology of brands fascinating and troubling. There is something infantile at work. From their advertising it's clear they try to hook the attachment associations of young children. There's something about the semiotics of brands, the repeatable, familiar experience, that bypasses adult reason. I honestly find it really dark and sinister. And that extends to Facebook, Google and all the tech brands with their bright-coloured childish logos, toddler-friendly rounded edges, and poor quality products. Seeing British high-streets strewn with garish fast-food brands and the litter that spews forth is disgusting. Am I a snob? It's not even cheap. Much better value can be found in any small cafe. Only once or twice in my life I've been to a Pizza-Hut, because others were going and I was swept up in some social pressure. I'd rather eat "real" pizza from a small restaurant. Going to a KFC or McDonald's horrifies me. But sometimes the smell and the crowd provokes some primitive feeding instinct in me - a draw to the trough. These companies are certainly adept at psychology, and so I think anyone who feels emotion in relation to big brands should question what that's really about.
- t-3 4y agoYeah, nah. I won't miss Pizza Hut, or their disgusting salad bar with flies crawling on it, their sweet-sweet marinara pizza sauce, or their high prices. In fact, since being an adult, I don't even eat pizza unless it's at a social function where refusing would be rude. Really, the 90's sucked just as bad as everything since, maybe even more. At least the 2000's have been pretty straightforwardly shitty, even the faux-righteousness of the government is dressed up in clearly Orwellian language rather than the old-style hypocrisy which expected you to actually buy it. Whatever happened to that Taco Bell dog, though?

- spupe 4y agoPeople have a hard time differentiating times when they were innocent from innocent times.
