The Case for Monarchy
- jleyank 4y agoTo me, there's a reasonable argument for a non-political head of state. If they want it to be a small-scale monarchy instead of a selected figure, that's up to the population that's affected. I would think a large-scale monarchy risks diverting cash from more pressing needs. The commonwealth, on the other hand, is an organization struggling to find a purpose. What are the benefits of membership? Does it provide lowered immigration barriers amongst members? Can member population travel freely to other Commonwealth members? Is there a common foreign or trade policy? Is there member-specific trade assistance? I would not be surprised if this does not last too long post-Elizabeth II, and that the number of countries sharing the King/Queen of the UK as their head of state shrinks more quickly. If a country insists on a monarchy as their head of state, they should be a citizen and resident of their state. Otherwise, that do not have formal complete sovereignty.
