- metadat 4y ago> Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

- metadat 4y agoThat's the not the intention or message, the community guidelines exist to promote and encourage interesting conversations. What do you feel the GP post adds to the discussion? At times I do think HN can be a bit narrow minded and a mob mentality can emerge. Despite this, I gently suggest not worrying about up or downvotes (because they're fake, worthless internet points). Focus instead on novel concepts and ideas. I admit that I myself struggle with avoiding writing crappy posts fairly often. I'm grateful for the overall tolerance and patience of the HN community, especially folks who take the time to explain what I might have overlooked or missed. There are some pretty amazing human beings around here.

- systemvoltage 4y agoThere is a weird dichotomy here. Would he protest in the same way if he wasn't famous and literally have opportunities knocking on his door on a daily basis, or he wasn't in a financial position to do this? If either of those things are true, then he is not truly protesting. Just exercising the power of his position while double-dipping into ostensible righteousness. Can't really take him seriously.
- _peeley 4y agoWhere are you seeing that this is some kind of "protest" or display or righteousness? Could it not be that he just left the company because he personally enjoys working from home?
- im3w1l 4y agoI think the fact that he sent out a note to staff gives that impression.
- KerrAvon 4y agoIt’s clear from the content of the message that he wants more flexibility personally _and _that he wants to set an public example. I don’t see why this is a problem. There is nothing inherently wrong with doing good things and being seen to do good things.
- postsantum 4y agoBeing a powerful employee is the exact thing that make his protest noticeable and able to better the lives of the rest of us a little bit. Anyway, isn't there at-will employment in the US? Apple, if you don't like it, just hire another person?
