I really miss how smooth analog audio sounds when its pitch is altered, watching him do it was a trip. Digital audio -- especially compressed digital audio files -- really starts to show its warts when playing with its speed and/or pitch, assuming you've ever had the privilege of doing the same with records, or even audio CDs.
- nullc 4y agoThere is no particular difficulty in getting the effect you're hearing from the analog device digitally -- it just requires an implementation other than the most simplistic possible, and most things don't bother because changing the speed is a weird effect to begin with.
- kevin_thibedeau 4y agoAudio CDs are easy to pitch shift with hardware that supports variable playback rates. That doesn't require any resampling effort. On PC hardware you're rigidly locked into a few supported sample rates and can't smoothly pitch shift without some effort.
- crtasm 4y agoCDs are also digital audio - are you talking about a difference between changing pitch on a hardware CD player and DJ software?
