The Japanese press writes on a regular basis about population decline, and about making it easier for immigrants to speak/learn Japanese or live in the country with limited Japanese, so I guess the language does play a part. Based on my very limited Japanese (about n3 grammar , 1000 kanji, but this is anecdotal), it is indeed very difficult, and I'd clearly try an English speaking country/country where I can work in English first !
