In the German expat community, Wise is indeed well-known and often recommended.
But what's with that name change? A few years ago they went from TransferWise to Wise. That seems like such a generic name, and now in that same community you see so many people say thing like "Wise (ex-TransferWise)", and here in the comments as well.
I thought about how much of a bad idea this name change was years ago when it happened, and the still ongoing disambiguation when mentioning it makes me feel that I was right...
- llampx 4y agoGoEuro is another one. Went from a great name to one where you can't tell what they do from the name itself.
- d--b 4y agoThey went from doing transfers to doing full banking, hence dropping the Transfer in TransferWise. I’ve been using them since inception, and I saved so much money compared to what I was doing before, I couldn’t care less what their name is.
