Elon Musk Hates Ads. Twitter Needs Them. That May Be a Problem
- danuker 4y agoWho says Twitter needs them? When WhatsApp was about to try the paid subscription model, it was bought by Facebook, less than a year later. I suspect it's still losing money (since it's free and I still see no ads), but the paid model might have worked.
- usrn 4y agoThere absolutely are ads on Twitter. I tried creating an account the other week and it relentlessly shoved a bunch of NFL stuff in my face despite the fact that I never engaged with it. I'm absolutely certain that was paid.
- danuker 4y agoSorry, I wasn't clear. I meant there aren't ads on WhatsApp.
- jleyank 4y agoHow does a service that does not charge its users survive without ads? How does an internet service that charges its users survive in the Net of today? How is charging commercial/govt entities to post on twitter different from an ad? (in the non-commercial, home sense)
- t-3 4y agoAds are shown to users, while paid accounts are presumably viewed voluntarily. Agency for real human users is the difference.
