Looking from the outside it is impossible to determine.
Without doubt, there are hundreds of talented hardworking people in key positions across the many companies that Musk "heads". The media makes it appear as all that happens is of Musk's doing. As the supreme leader he probably plays a key part in the selection and motivation of those top players. As for results, without them, Elon would have nothing to grandstand about.
- PaulHoule 5y agoMusk has also created enthusiasm for electric vehicles and reusable space vehicles. There was a report made to support SDI circa 1990 that talked about what to do to lower launch costs that advocated a path very similar to falcon and then starship. It also said that nobody would do it, that people would be seduced by dead ends like the shuttle and SSTO. I think Musk read that report and took it seriously.
