Note: even if the LED doesn't get hot by itself, if light gets absorbed within the computer case, the light will heat up the computer case. I've heard of using rubber putty (eg. Blu-Tack) for holding down components during soldering. I tried it a few days ago (on a mouse switch) and it seemed to work well.
