FM Towns Bootable FRAM Card: Final – Prebyopia vs. Surface Mount
- VyseofArcadia 4y agoI'm always happy to see English-language resources about obscure (inside of the anglosphere) PCs. Our retro PC scene is fun and weird and full of rabbit holes as is, and I love these little tastes of other parallel retrocomputing scenes.
- kjs3 4y agoYeah...the whole Japanese classic computer scene is an awesome rabbit hole. Things like the FM series (I think the FM-7 and FM-8 are facinating what-might-have-beens), the NEC almost-IBM PCs, the X68000, etc., etc. are all fascinating.
- NovemberWhiskey 4y agoAs soon I saw those LEDs on the board, I knew they were the wrong part for the job! Yikes.
- RF_Savage 4y agoHehehe yeah. "That's gona be blindingly bright." Was my first impression.
- shrubble 4y agoIt actually is FRAM, which is a fascinating technology. FRAM has high write endurance and is stable in retaining its memory over many years even if powered off. - nyanpasu64 4y agoNote: even if the LED doesn't get hot by itself, if light gets absorbed within the computer case, the light will heat up the computer case. I've heard of using rubber putty (eg. Blu-Tack) for holding down components during soldering. I tried it a few days ago (on a mouse switch) and it seemed to work well.
