Yikes. Lot of grumpy change resistant posts on HackerNews this morning.
It's wild to me that an blog pointing out that some brands cost more than others is upvoted highly.
- smoldesu 4y agoSounds like a common sentiment then. I don't think it's unreasonable to be mad that people are trying to sell you iterative changes on what you already have, it's the race-to-the-bottom mentality that SAAS models tend to encourage.

- smoldesu 4y agoCan't say I am, I haven't bought a game console since the original Wii, but that hasn't stopped me from playing the latest Zelda and Metroid and such. I think Stallman hit the nail on the head when he said that "all software wants to be free", and I have yet to see any evidence that it isn't true. Phones I try to keep for as long as I can until they're unsupported via software, but traditionally yeah I do get a little miffed that hardware vendors don't encourage people to run aftermarket software on out-of-support devices. Cars are mechanical devices that ultimately decay into unusability after a certain point, but there's not really much difference in core functionality between them as long as you can obey traffic laws while driving them. I don't really see what you're getting at. Maybe I'm not consooming hard enough for this site? If I subscribe to Disney+ and AppleTV will I finally be cool too?
