The abstract is pretty obstruse but this basically sounds like always-running apps on a phone or tablet, perhaps with the UI popping up depending on the context provided by the RF environment. This may solve a basic problem with phones and tablets, namely that it takes several clicks and delays before you can download/process/view information, especially in IoT systems, which makes a lot of hardware/software systems cumbersome to use and fragile on phones/tablets. In essence, the portable device would become similar to a remote dedicated control interface with instant bidirectional access to information, no login required, automatically updated, and context sensitive. The apps that currently are allowed to pop-up information on home screens and let users interact with them there are a kind of limited preview of what this could be like. Voice commanded systems could accomplish the same thing if designed well, but a voice-only system can't do some things like show you a graph or let you move banks of slider controls. Intelligent context control would be difficult to do though since human meaningful context is difficult to figure out. It often just depends on what the user is thinking, so perhaps a voice command to pop the appropriate control surface UI to the foreground would let the user determine context.
