Why Are American Chips So Boring?
- Geonode 4y agoJust make them available online? Obviously there's probably zero demand for lamb and mint chips in a grocery store where every square foot matters.
- codefreeordie 4y ago"I went to a mass merchandiser and all they had was mass merchandise. Why does America suck?"
- vba616 4y agoSecond to last paragraph concedes the premise isn't even true, though.
- tabtab 4y agoI like boring chips. Don't mess with them or I'll kick you in the chillies.
- dragontamer 4y agoMaybe because there's a thriving restaurant industry in the USA, and that's where all the expensive eaters go? If I want "good chips", I know a few local restaurants close by me that hand-cut and self-season those chips... and I get the piping hot and fresh. The restaurant has their own salt-mix that they use, so they're also uniquely seasoned. ---------- Prepackaged food is looked down upon right now. Its "not in-vogue". Why would anyone spend time experimenting with tastes in the prepackaged format right now? If someone were to try to build "a new taste", its probably better to buy up 3 or 4 food trucks and spread that food around locally instead. That's where the "experimental food culture" is in my town anyway, at food-truck meetups.
- vba616 4y agoIronically, they're talking about American style "chips". I know, I assumed otherwise too.
- dragontamer 4y agoI get American style chips from a nice restaurant near me. Yes. This is a thing, and they taste pretty darn good. Hot, fresh chips with some scallions and spices tastes way better than any prepackaged chip you get from Frito-lays.
- Axsuul 4y agoNordic country chip selections are in an even sadder state of affairs.
