It's a nice - if short - video. But watching it I realized for the first time that I'd never ever seen video of Lem in action. Despite being a huge fan and keeping his face as wallpaper on my phone. Seeing him in motion gave me a sense of intimacy and feel for him as a person that I never thought I'd be able to experience.
That aside, I'm happy to see Jonathan Lethem articulate something that I'd always known by reading his books: that he has several different modes of writing. A few of them even seem to contradict one another in their approach (hard and scientific vs. playful and fantastic). It's interesting to see a writer switch gears so dramatically, even if they DO still maintain the same sense of imagination and wonder about the world across both modes.
