Yeah I always laugh when tech companies say data collected is "anonymous", but don't tell you if you combine several datasets it's possible to know exactly who these users are with a high degree of certainty. These engineers know better, but the general public does not.
- webmobdev 4y agoYeah, that is exactly why I don't trust Apple when it says it does data collection with a focus on "privacy" or creates services that claim to "protect your privacy" from others but which in turn give them the opportunity to collect even more user data by re-routing all data through Apple servers.
- convolvatron 4y agothink of it like US polictics, are you going to vote for the campaign that pretends to hold your values or the one that isn't even pretending
- webmobdev 4y agoI am from India, a multi-party democracy with 100's of political organisations - So if a party isn't speaking up for my concerns, I'll probably start my own. :)
- jaywalk 4y agoI'm currently working on a customer satisfaction survey that is sent out after a service has been performed. It is claimed on the survey page that the responses will be anonymous unless the customer checks a box requesting to be contacted. I've had to fight a couple battles about what data will be kept if that box is not checked, because of things like this. No, we cannot log when the email was sent out because that is tied to an event that is logged elsewhere. No, we cannot log what products were involved in the service, because of the same reason. And so on. I told my customer that I'm either making it completely anonymous, or the language on the page has to change. Thankfully I won that battle, and the anonymous responses will be truly anonymous.
