- thematrixturtle 4y agoCongratulations on being so inclusive, but studies have repeatedly demonstrated that what you look like, down to the brands you wear, makes a significant difference to interview outcomes.
- dccoolgai 4y agoYeah, and this might not go over well here but: ... Wear a suit to the interview. Doesn't have to be an expensive Armani or anything, just look like you give half a shit.
- Brian_K_White 4y agoCan you please quote the part where he said he was slovenly?
- dahfizz 4y agoI think this depends a lot on where you're interviewing. Showing up in a suit when everyone else is wearing flip flops makes you look like an asshole. The best thing is to wear their dress code +1. If they are all very casual, wear business casual. If they are all business casual, maybe you want to wear a sports jacket. If you can't easily find out what their dress code is, I default to business casual. I would not want to work at a place where a suit and tie is mandatory anyway.
- dccoolgai 4y agoIf you overshot the mark, you can always shrug and say "The way I was brought up, you wear a suit to an interview to show respect. Hope you don't mind."
- thematrixturtle 4y ago+1. In IT, it's hard to go wrong with collared shirt, khakis and dress shoes. Even if everybody else is in flip-flops, it's not going to look wildly out of place.

- 2000UltraDeluxe 4y ago> It's 2022 my friend and I don't think we need to be prejudiced You're right. It _is_ sad and it's unfair but hat doesn't change the fact that this is the way the world works. Getting hired means being liked by the people who recruit you. Ticking of a bunch of boxed in a list of requirements. That does, on occasion, mean you have to adapt in order to make them tick a few more boxes.
- infinitezest 4y agoI think you might be confusing "is" with "ought" here. The condescension isn't a very good look either.
