US Court Orders Every ISP in the US to Block Illegal Streaming Sites
- dmitrygr 5y agoThis is huge. Why is this not being reported on more widely? “Dynamic blacklist” means that now everyone must track any domains the defendants ever register, or a sprawling bureaucracy must be created to do so. Both easy to abuse for more nefarious purposes than blocking streaming tv!
- Kon-Peki 5y agoI guess I'm confused, but it appears that they don't even know who these (infringing) people are. How can you block domains that unknown people register in the future?
- pgn674 5y agoIf this stands and is enforced, will this be the first time ever in the US that an ISP providing internet access to home subscribers is forced by the government to block something?
- bartchamdo 5y agoIt seems obvious the court didn’t understand it’s ruling or that it was breaking new ground. Also, someone has to request the enforcement of the order or it is just writing on a document. Many laws are written and go forever unenforced. Still it is disturbing news, as we are already at an alarming rate of censorship with the laws morphing for the worse.
- deepcyanide 5y agoYour take sounds a bit optimistic, this is the win hollywood has been seeking for years. I doubt this was a mistake and even if it is they'll happily embrace it.
