Relationships are based on shared experience. Face to face(rather than virtual) and high stress leads to greater reaction - either like or dislike depending on allegiance. College studies are a stress. College kitchen debate - sometimes trite, sometimes rigorous, sometimes hilarious seeded a lot of friendships. But only seeded. A fallibility for the sense of "belonging" in modern life is replacing "repeated physical presence at X time" with "virtual anytime".
