I agree about ongoing feedback. I have weekly/biweekly meeting with my manager where I give a brief summary of what I’ve been doing and what the state of projects are. She asks questions, makes suggestions where needed, and then we chat about whatever is needed. If anything were bothering me, this is where I would bring it up and where she would. When it get to annual review, I provide a summary of major projects. She mostly agrees and makes suggestions for the near future. Not a lot of surprises because we have been in sync all along.
