Interfaces are more important than implementations.
That the "implementation" are just duck taping other interfaces together proves the point!
- foobiekr 5y agoIt’s the other way around. Implementation is and always has been everything. Performance, security, reliability, efficiency - these are all implementation aspects where the same interface can cover a world ranging from total crap to excellence. Langsec is something I strongly agree with btw, but it’s not interface-supremacy and the world doesn’t look like that.
- Ericson2314 5y agoI'm not disputing the implementations are more lines of code than interfaces. What I am saying instead is interfaces and composition needs more attention. Shitty APIs are a lack of attention to interfaces. Shitty marshalling ultimately stems from a lack of attention to competitionality, and the cost is that people are incentivized to commit anti-lang-sec sins. > these are all implementation aspects where the same interface can cover a world ranging from total crap to excellence. This is narrowly true, but completely misleading. You have to focus on incentivization and emergent behavior. Good interfaces can be used safely by lazy people. Bad interfaces will never be used will by the most careful people. Every implementation tests in interfaces below it, and so quality will percolate upwards.
