So if someone makes an honest mistake and types and extra number, it's OK to both 1) don't process any amount and 2) hold the money for two months. That doesn't feel right to me.
E.g. I buy shares and mistype the ticker or buy extra. It processes but then I notice my mistake and I can either fix it by selling, or decide ir doesn't matter and keep the shares. What doesn't make any sense is the broker keeping the money for two months and not giving me any share.
- Ekaros 4y agoI take there is some extra step for actually transferring the money which one should verify as well. Or that would be reasonable due diligence.
- FartyMcFarter 4y agoI agree that the system should be better and it's too much to hold someone's money for that long. At the same time, attempting to toy with a system you don't know is a recipe for trouble.
- hedora 4y agoHave you ever paid taxes in the US? The IRS loves creating scenarios that lead to them incorrectly holding big wads of your cash.
- mise_en_place 4y agoOne of my coworkers told me a long time ago, it's better to increase your withholding allowances. That way the government is giving you an interest free loan.
- zerocrates 4y agoThere's a limit to how much you can do that and not owe a penalty.
- Breza 4y agoYeah, my goal with taxes is to pay within a thousand bucks of what I actually owe in a year. It's surprisingly hard to do.
- danuker 4y agoThat is absurd. If the government wants the money, why doesn't it just tax more?
