I am not the most social person and maybe this is a somewhat of a 'bliss of not knowing' due to being ~6'2", but is this obsession with height common in Europe?

I am not the most social person and maybe this is a somewhat of a 'bliss of not knowing' due to being ~6'2", but is this obsession with height common in Europe? I don't recall any of my friends mentioning height as a criteria. I guess I see women dating taller men almost exclusively, but in a sense that the man is the same height or taller, not over 185cm or whatever. I can't even recollect how tall are like 80% (as in, taller, same or shorter than me) people I know unless I know them very well. It never crosses my mind.
