Completely off topic, but I'm amazed the word "meme" was used like this in 2002. I had thought the term meme came into usage due to 4chan which was a few years later...

- rdegges 5y agoSorry! The direct link to the article has a URL fragment, and I believe that got stripped out of my submission somehow, maybe an admin can update if they see this :(
- ChrisGranger 5y agoRichard Dawkins coined the word, and it appeared in his book The Selfish Gene, 1976.
- noobermin 5y agoI'm aware of the actual origin, it's the fact that it's used this way to refer to online "memes" even back then. It was due to the online usage that the term was adopted in wider popular usage.
