When I worked in defense aerospace the majority of software engineers were 40+. Plenty in their 50s, a few 60+.
- IronWolve 4y agoAnalog programmers are typically much older. Last job worked at a production plant, and the engineers came in, worked a project, then enjoyed their time off. We would routinely just deactivate their accounts, because they would come back for the next project. Late 50/60's was the norm.
- cyberpunk 4y agoThere is a massive shortage of such embedded c developers coming it seems… which is tricky as for a lot of these components you’re legally required to be able to provide patches for the lifetime of the product, which could be decades. I worked for a company who once had to get a vic-20 out of retirement to provide a patch some 25 years after the code was shipped!
