It's funny because I would interpret those exact words "I think this person has too much experience for this role", as "The budget I have for the position is not enough to afford this person".
But maybe you're right that it's ageism and I just assume the best in people.

- AnimalMuppet 4y agoI second your take. I have a lot of experience. I want to get paid for it. If you don't need that much experience, you probably don't want to pay my price.
- mikro2nd 4y agoI don't think those hiring should make any such assumptions. I have lots of experience. I'd like to get paid accordingly, but * my mortgage is long-since paid off * my kids are grown and independant (no more school fees, university costs) * my car is paid for With lower expenses I can afford to accept less money, provided it means an interesting work opportunity. So don't just assume that I'd demand more money. Ask. Maybe there's some middle ground where we can meet. Are you flexible enough?
- albert_e 4y agoI have a lot of experience but didn't hob hop along with my peers so my current pay is well below market levels. I would happily consider an offer that matches my experience and aspirations from a job role perspective even if the pay doesn't match the currently overheated market.
