Is soup popular in Dutch cuisine? Honestly asking. Etymologies of aphorisms (especially multiple cultural ones) fascinate me.

  Not particularly popular, especially nowadays. "Snert", a thick pea soup with pork, is a classic winter dish though.

  In Dutch-speaking Belgium, soup used to be a staple of our diet. Every meal started with soup when I was young.
