- giuliomagnifico 5y agoThe research is here: https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/existing-infrastructure-will-be-unable-to-support-demand-for-high-speed-internet https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/existing-infrastructure-... I think the distance is calculated with attenuation because also a short cable can have lot of noise. But I think also the speed could be reached at longer distances than 30m, at least 200/300m
- boesboes 5y agoThe theoretical limit they discuss in the paper is 100gbps over 300m, 1tbps at 100m. So that seems a lot like a log function? Soo, 10gbps with 900m & 1gbps at 2700m. Theoretically atleast :)
- giuliomagnifico 5y agoUsually the degradation is not linear as you said. So about 1gbps at 2000m would be excellent compared to now that least we can have 2/300mbpbs at about 1/200m. Obviously there’re lots of variables on the copper, really a lot. Also every EU’s country has a different infrastructure.
