Takes a bit of squinting, but... I see it's 2011-2015. I wonder if they've tried using a digit-recognizing NN of some sort to automate finding digit-like coordinates? A MNIST NN wouldn't work, binarized inputs, but there's Color MNIST and street signs and many other kinds of number-related CV nets.
