Company Now Owns Enough Single-Family Homes to House the Country of Iceland
- anamax 4y agoIceland's population is less than the population of Anaheim, which is #56 in the US by population, and just a little more than Honolulu.

- montjoy 4y agoI normally don’t say things like this, esp. on HN- This is disgusting. No good can come from it.
- bradknowles 4y agoFirst two paragraphs: Single-family rentals has been one of the hottest real estate asset classes over the past couple of years as home values and rent prices have soared. The largest owner of this asset class in the U.S. is Invitation Homes Inc. (NYSE: INVH), a real estate investment trust (REIT) with a portfolio of 82,758 single-family rental homes as of the end of the first quarter this year. The company’s portfolio is mostly made up of homes in the Western U.S. and sunbelt states, where the barriers to homeownership are highest and rent demand is strong. The average monthly rent for the entire portfolio during the first quarter was $2,078, with the highest average rent being in Southern California at $2,744 per month.
- nicbou 4y agoIs there a benefit to this pattern? Can it somehow result in something that improves the situation of renters?
- ComradePhil 4y agoThis kind of disinformation/title clickbait needs to be flagged. Use proper numbers, "population of Iceland" is not a valid unit. This tactic is used disingenously to trick people into thinking that the number is much higher than it really is.
- unmole 4y agoThere are dozens of companies which have more employees than the population of Iceland. What is even the point of using it as a unit?
