Who is afraid of elemental (nuclear) power?
- ZeroGravitas 5y ago> There is another, longer-term cost of nuclear fear. Germany has pledged to sharply reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to help slow global warming; it built thousands of wind turbines and solar arrays to wean itself off fossil fuels. But claiming to be serious about fighting climate change while powering down nuclear power plants is a bit like leaping into the ring to fight Tyson Fury without boxing gloves on. Talk as tough as you like, but people might wonder whether you’re serious about winning. That's a seriously strange metaphor. I guess they're trying for the "renewables don't work and climate change is a hoax to usher in communism" crowd that love this "if climate change was real they'd build nuclear" gotcha line but not wanting to actually write that down plainly because it would make them look both insane and pro fossil fuels. So they went with something vague and nonsensicle instead.
