I will happily pay my local equivalent of £30 each year to not have to wait for every device I use to start from a cold boot every time I want to use it. My TV takes ~2 minutes to be usable after booting, I use that every single day more or less - if I wait for a cold boot each time that's HOURS of time lost every year.
Not to mention things like games consoles which update themselves and their installed software while in standby mode - that's more hours of time saved. All for the low low price of £30pa.
Realistically I could buy smart plugs or ones with a timer, but that's more cost (probably more than £30), more complexity, and they'll probably cause at least one ungraceful shutdown which I'd rather not have to deal with. And the last thing I want is more discount IoT garbage using my internet to participate in a DDoS because the now bankrupt manufacturer left telnet on and forgot to change the password from "admin/admin".
