One of the more interesting repercussions I see is that Musk wants to
open up the algorithms. There's a lot of dirty secrets in that code,
because a clever analysts will be able to go back through the timeline
and see what past events have been influenced and how those algorithms
have been used politically. Of all the things Musk promises to do,
this is the one I expect him to get cold feet and reverse on.
- car_analogy 4y agoWhy would he get cold feet on it? It's not his secrets that would be revealed.
- nonrandomstring 4y ago> It's not his secrets that would be revealed. Well, in a way they would be, because he just bought them. Musk at least needs to keep his new toy train set running. Having all the algorithm designers (read political policy makers) jump because their past deeds are rudely exposed might not be as easy as he thinks. Edit: (worth adding) I expect there's a lot of furious "cleaning up" of code and data afoot at Twitter right now, which is the real reason for the "locking down" and need to "prevent sabotage" mentioned in the article.
