He basically dunked on him like young NBA players dunk on old ones putting their crotch in their face. Gates, Buffett, Kochs, Waltons are old school billionaires, they behave and talk like old money European royality. Gates real name is not even Bill but William H. Gates III. Tell me a name which sounds more like AngloSaxon aristocracy and old money than that. You can't. Musk has shown his superiority both in the Forbes list, managerial capabilities, multitasking, the stock market as well as the ability to make people dream. As a bonus to all of that he can communicate with the masses who want to follow people who speak their minds on social media and talk to the world and to their 80M followers like they would with their close friends in a room. And yes when you are with your close friends you'll attack, call names and even "fat shame" your enemies, because you know that your friends will always have your back, and Musk followers have his. That's the reason why Musk is on his way to become the first trillionaire as all those other guys fall into irrelevancy. People are enjoying this process and support him wholeheartadly. It's one of those rare alignments where Musk succeeding will benefit humanity both technologically as well as socially, politically and as a matter of how interpersonal relationships are handled (both online and offline). Gates tries to cure disease. Allen looked for historical wrecks. Musk does marketing and sells Musk. To followup on your age bit, perhaps Musk will also turn into a benefactor for many things like older capitalists have done for centuries. But then, not every one does.

The shortest route between 2 points is a line. By the same token the shortest route to social success is becoming a politician. Musk noticed it and said to himself "if somebody must do it, then it might as well be somebody competent" and who is more competent than Elon Musk? Data says nobody. That's why the financials of his business don't matter, and they never will. He's the singular force of hope for people who don't like the current trajectory of the US.     Ah. They're all selfish bastards, then, who don't give a shit about what happens outside their little bubble? Not the best strategy as most of why they buy comes from outside that bubble and diseases float on the wind. Hope you like brown or black.
