That's an interesting analogy, but I'd like to turn a positive spin on it: now that the tower is being built and we can all talk to each other, the old Gods are losing their power and it makes them afraid.
But that's good news for us, the plebs, since the interests of the old Gods aren't aligned with ours:
> Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
- kjeetgill 5y agoTo overindulge what was already a weak navel-gazing metaphor, the whole point of that story was to warn against hubris that sounds just like: > But that's good news for us, the plebs, since the interests of the old Gods aren't aligned with ours And it kind of mirrors how I feel about this whole situation and sentiments like yours: just naïveté and hubris.
- cato_the_elder 5y ago:-) You have a valid point about overindulging in that metaphor, but I guess I can't stop myself. Genesis was supposedly written by one of the main promoters of the guy who didn't want the tower built. We should be aware of his biases when it comes to moralizing. History is written by the victors. Hopefully the next version of Genesis will be written by those who want people to talk to each other freely.
