Show HN: Baseten – Build ML-powered applications
Hi HN,
Three months ago, I took a job at Baseten to help craft and document an application builder that lets data scientists build full-stack, production-ready applications around their ML models without worrying about containers, Flask, or React. From my first day, everyone was focused on what would happen today: opening up our public beta. I’m super excited to see what you build with Baseten.
If you want to take Baseten for a full-speed test drive, follow along with this tutorial, where you can build and deploy an application in 20 minutes: https://docs.baseten.co/getting-started https://docs.baseten.co/getting-started
While Baseten is built for data scientists and machine learning engineers, something I’m particularly excited about that doesn’t come up often when we talk about Baseten is how it also makes building with ML available to people like me with a general software engineering background but no real experience with ML. With our library of pre-trained models, you can build and deploy an application around models for tasks like sentiment analysis, image classification, and speech transcription. By building applications around pre-trained models, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the use cases, capabilities, and limitations of machine learning.
If you want to play around with some models and applications without signing up for an account yet, check out our gallery (https://baseten.co/gallery https://baseten.co/gallery) and try the demo apps.
P.S. We are also hiring; I found Baseten from HN.

- tuhins 4y agoI’m Tuhin, one of the co-founders of Baseten. Baseten is a realization of the product that we wish we had when we were trying to get value from trained models in previous jobs. I’m excited to see this on HN and will be around to answer any questions you have.
- bguberfain 4y agoCan you could give more details regarding the on-premises option?
- tuhins 4y agoWe can pretty much deploy anywhere via a helm chart. You can email me (tuhin at baseten dot co) to chat more about it.
- tomelliot 4y agoLooks cool! Do you support using a different no code front end?
- tuhins 4y agoyep! it's all modular :) you can call the models, API endpoints from wherever you'd like (retool, streamlit, or your own front-end).
- spicym11 4y agothis is a really cool idea! will definitely become a successful business internationally.
- randomcatuser 4y agoHm, why do you say that?
- d4rkp4ttern 4y agoLooks really nice. Is this suitable for building customer facing SaaS apps, or is it more for “internal” apps?
- tuhins 4y agoThank you! We've had customers build both but today, it is purpose-built more for internal use cases.
- d4rkp4ttern 4y agoThanks. What are the limitations one would run into if using this for a customer facing SaaS app ?
- philipkiely 4y agoThere are no technical limitations in terms of scaling or permissions preventing you from building something customer-facing on Baseten! Personally, I'm very excited for indie hacker types to get their hands on Baseten and start shipping cool things. However, we are currently prioritizing use cases for building internal tools as we build the product.
