Oh.. it's not to keep them off the streets or out of trouble. Gods that is a horrible reason to make kids take piano. My kids didn't take Piano, they took ukulele lessons. Same reasoning I suspect though. Many people wish they took music lessons as adults, and as a parent I want to help my kid avoid that. Another reason... Music helps with creativity and maths. It also teaches perseverance and discipline. Finally. It's fun. I took lessons too, and now we all play.
