Why I quit Google (the second time)
- donsupreme 4y agodo people really need to write these?
- bogantech 4y agoPeople who work at FAANGs think they're the most important people in the world
- Rerarom 4y agoWho knows, maybe they're right
- renewiltord 4y agoWell, it’s just a blog, dude. You don’t have to read it.
- sidcool 4y agoI think the OP meant to understand the motivation behind writing such blogs. Of course anyone can choose to ignore it. Point is that probably the OP read it and has questions.
- marginalia_nu 4y agoDunno, most of what I write is for myself. Occasionally someone reads it and finds value, that's great, but also not the point.
- stuntkite 4y agoI think it's interesting. I'm pretty sure a lot of the "top talent" at FAANG (if we are still calling it that) are leaving in droves for similar reasons. I don't really care about what degrees he got or didn't get but I'm interested in who these people are, what they worked on, and how many of them are going to just go pursue their passions or whatever. For the last 15 years, our best and brightest have gone to these companies to build shit that we arguably maybe didn't need all these people to go do. Now who is going to maintain all of this? Are our frameworks and managers good enough to keep those ships running with code bootcamp folks? I don't know at all, but I do see that happening. I've worked for a FAANG company and have some friends that still do and most of them have enough money that they can do whatever they want. It seems that what most of them want is more control and not to be associated with the albatross. Maybe Elon will buy them all up and his college can crank out folks to maintain them or something. You are right though, the details of whatever personal stuff he's saying to me at least, isn't that interesting. In aggregate with how the rest of the tech space is going, I think these posts are very interesting.
- sircastor 4y agoIt felt a little to me like an ad for his new company. “I’m going to work for this new place, unlike my old place which everyone recognizes, but is terrible”
- UncleMeat 4y agoYeah this one reads weird. “Here are things I found frustrating at Google” is a reasonable thing to write. But a large amount of this is about how awesome it is going to be at Snowflake before they even show up.
- weq 4y agoTDLR; You need more then money and status to feel forfilled inside. Whats your price? Whats your goal?
- samhw 4y agoIMO, you need money and status then more. (Maslow would agree.) ;) Edit: Sorry, to be clear, I was punning on that misspelling. You want 'more than'. (Also, incidentally, 'fulfilled'.)
