From a pure self-interest perspective, they should be worried about this. Allowing republicans generally to return to one of the most active public squares in the country will have a huge impact on their ability to control the narrative.
- jfengel 5y agoVery few Republicans have been banned from Twitter. Nothing has been done to the party as a whole. Trump personally was banned for numerous violations of their policy, and given far more latitude precisely for being President. There remained a great many Republicans on Twitter -- despite their crafting a narrative that they were being singled out for their beliefs.
- codefreeordie 5y agoEnough Republicans have been banned from Twitter for a Republican-driven replacement service (that isn't the one that Trump is nominally backing) to become popular on the right. A broad array of Republican politicians and media personalities have been banned -- including at least one current member of congress -- and a huge array of political topics have had the official Democratic position enforced as the only allowed-to-be-posted opinion, again driving Republicans to alternative services. If Musk follows through on his claimed intent to allow posters to post things that don't follow Democratic-party official narrative positions, and unbans the accounts of the hundreds of high-profile folks on the right who have been banned, that would represent a significant risk to the Democratic party's ability to narrative shape.
