She wants political support, or at least avoid picking a battle. This is noteworthy. Similar to Gell-Mann amnesia, we should keep this effect in mind in other questions. When people say "trust the experts" we should keep it mind. Is this an actual expert opinion, or is it an expedient lie. That doesn't mean that it is a lie every time. Clearly these people do a balancing act between truth and realpolitik.
