Nothing about the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans, which was quite a show. There was even an ocean-going oil rig on display you could clamber over, a cable car across the Mississippi--ten stories high at least--and other attractions. A report on the Dubai World's Fair is that: it was disappointing. Several countries saved money by just showing films; you can see the same material on the Internet without having to travel to Dubai. Only some countries offered their national cuisine; the event didn't even qualify as a decent trade show.

- ghaff 4y agoAs I vaguely recall, the drilling rig was the Ocean Scout which was a retired semisubmersible from the company I was working for at the time in New Orleans. Don't remember the details and it's long pre-WWW so I don't see anything online. It was probably just the drill floor and derrick or something like that. The fair was right before I went elsewhere. As I recall it was a financial flop and not much specific remains but it did lead to a general revitalization of an area along the Mississippi that had been pretty much dilapidated warehouses.
